Week Three Assignment, Part 1 – CARE Model Analysis of District/Campus Improvement Initiatives or Action Research Plans
Please review your intern plan. In the first course, students were encouraged to engage in some action research, or participate in district or campus improvement initiatives. Each of you has had some experiences with such initiatives or action plans. Please review those experiences and complete the following analysis:
Concerns – Review your participation in improvement initiatives or efforts to engage in action research, and list at least three concerns that you have identified from these experiences – a concern may be any matter that engages your attention or interest.
- Our central office administration is doing an excellent job, but their job responsibilities need to be evenly distributed among the different administrators in central office. I believe two individuals are overloaded with responsibilities.
- Parental involvement at the middle schools and high school needs improvement. Parental involvement usually drops at the middle school and high school level but their participation is too low. Our district needs to develop a plan to increase parental involvement at these and all levels.
- I attended all board meetings on the last Thursday of every month. Our district needs to make sure people in the audience can hear the conversation that is taking place in the meeting. The volume of the PA system needs to be turned up or replaced. I have had a hard time listening to the conversation of the board and administration.
Affirmations - Review your participation in improvement initiatives or efforts to engage in action research, and affirm or identify at least 3 actions that must be sustained and supported to achieve the District/Campus improvement initiatives.
- Provide professional development that will be hands on to help improve the delivery of instruction.
- Continue to provide and develop strategies that will help close the achievement gap of our LEP and Economically Disadvantaged students.
- Provide and develop a new teacher training program that will be beneficial to new incoming teachers.
Recommendations - Review your participation in improvement initiatives or efforts to engage in action research and describe at least 3 recommendations you would make regarding the District/Campus Improvement plans or action research plans.
- Administrators and from central office and principals from all campuses need to go through team building professional development activities together.
- All schools need to implement Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to improve the learning, taught and tested in our district.
- Improve the safety of all schools by first assuring that a all schools have a security booth at the entrance of all schools.
Evaluate - Review your participation in improvement initiatives or efforts to engage in action research and identify at least 3 strategies for evaluating the improvement plans or recommendations.
- Evaluate the districts professional development activities and develop a plan that will help improve those activities in all schools.
- Evaluate the parental involvement program in our district. Meet with our director of parental involvement, administrators, principals, teachers and parents to brainstorm and develop a parental involvement program that is second to none.
- Evaluate the questioning techniques of all teachers in the district by increased walk-thrus. We need to make sure all teachers are challenging our students appropriately by asking them the right challenging questions. Teachers can improve their questioning techniques through participation in their PLC’s and through peer observations.
Week Three Assignment, Part 2 – Part C of the Comprehensive Final Report
Describing Recommendations and District/Campus Improvement Initiative/Action Research Lessons Learned
Review the above analysis, and write at least one page thoroughly describing recommendations and lessons learned from experiences with the improvement initiatives or action research plans.
Blog Follow-Up: Be sure to post your above reflection on your Recommendations and Lessons Learned to your blog, and read and comment on at least two other students’ assessment reflections.
As I reflect through my internship activities and my interviews with the superintendent and different administrators of the district, I feel that this has provided me with an opportunity to see how our district operates on a daily basis. I have provided information on some areas that I believe need to be addressed in our school district but I also believe our school district is providing our students with excellent opportunities to be successful. They have top facilities, curriculum that is broken down every year and a team of leaders and teachers that have made it their passion to provide our students with best learning experience possible. Embracing the learning taught and tested is evident in all campuses in our district. With so many good things happening in our district you could say there aren’t many areas in need of improvement. WRONG... As leaders and future superintendents we must constantly seek improvements to the district’s curriculum and management of the district’s revenues to maintain and constantly improve the performance of our school district.
I believe that our district must improve in the following areas:
1. Parental involvement program and activities
2. Meaningful and Purposeful professional development
3. Questioning strategies from teachers
I believe that our district needs to look at these areas and set up committees to develop and make recommendations to improve the areas I have listed. If we work together as a team and we make our passion to see these areas improve; we can implement strategies that will help us in these areas. Involving parents in the education of their children, providing our teachers with professional development that will help drive instruction and challenging our students with highly effective questions on a daily basis will certainly help improve the success of our students in our district. It is our commitment and passion to provide our students with the Best Education in Texas.
Week Three Assignment, Part 3 - Scheduling a Conference with the District Site Supervisor to review the SISE
Please schedule a conference with your District Site Supervisor between now and Week 5 to review the Supervisor’s SISE (Superintendent/Supervisor Internship Summative Evaluation). To confirm this scheduled conference, please describe your efforts below – this may include “sending an email request for a scheduled conference, visiting with the supervisor to schedule a conference, or any other efforts describing your efforts to schedule this conference.”
I have set up a meeting with the Superintendent on September 13th. He told me to call him on Monday to set up a time for the meeting.
