Supervisor Conference

I met with Superintendent Jesus O. Guerra Jr. on February 14, 2011.  Our Meeting lasted about 40 minutes.  I started off the meeting by thanking Mr. Guerra for the opportunity to meet with him and his agreement to be my site supervisor.  First, I gave him the letter of the Internship Supervisor and afterwards we discussed the role of both the intern and supervisor.  He agreed to the duties of the supervisor but also explained his busy schedule and said he would do his best to make time to meet with me throughout my internship.  We proceeded and went over my internship plan.  I explained to Mr. Guerra that I tried to set up most of my intern activities at the campus level because I didn’t want my plan to take time away from my principal duties.  He agreed with me and went on to discuss on Negotiation/Consensus Building.  He said as superintendent there are times when negotiation and consensus will take place and there are times when none will take place. For instance, he said that student learning and the delivering of instruction comes first.  There is no negotiation there; all our meetings involve student learning, student improvement and the delivery of instruction.  He also said Strategic Planning is also important and should consist of a tight focus on the improvement of instruction.  Time was running out because he had to attend an important meeting with board member.  He did not suggest to me that I make some changes to my intern plan but he said he would look over it again and get back to me if any changes need to be made. He finished by stating he liked my activity on increased walkthroughs to improve teacher instruction and student learning and congratulated me on completing my first course towards my superintendent certificate.
